The Largo in Los Angeles was the site of a special musical event this week, as Inara George and Greg Kurstin, known as the Bird and the Bee, took the stage to cover 10cc’s hit song “The Things We Do For Love,” with Jack Black and Kyle Gass of Tenacious D providing backing vocals.
10cc, comprised of Godley, Crème, and Gouldman, was once dubbed the “biggest Jewish band to come out of Britain,” and has had a string of memorable hits over the years.
George and Kurstin first met while working on George’s debut album, and the Bird and the Bee was formed as an indie pop project later on. In 2020, they released Put Up The Lights, a holiday album that featured Dave Grohl on drums for the track “Little Drummer Boy.”
Kurstin and Grohl are celebrating Hanukkah this year with a series of sessions featuring covers of Jewish artists’ songs.
On the first day of the sessions, comedian and filmmaker Judd Apatow performed “Spinning Wheel” by Blood, Sweat, and Tears, and Pink joined in on the second day to sing “Get the Party Started.”
It’s clear that these sessions are bringing together some of music’s biggest names for a truly memorable holiday celebration.
